WHAT'S NEW AT ALDER CREEK
FARM?

We'd like you to meet Sofie - our new Golden Retreiver.
Well lots is new these days. In the past year we've stopped
operating as a quarter horse breeding farm and have just been having
fun riding the horses that we have. But now it's time for
more changes. Note: we will be selling
hay this Summer!
Over the past thirty years I (Pat) have worked at some very interesting
and wonderful companies, both in government and the high tech sectors.
Somewhere in between these jobs I also ran my own fitness studio
for 3 years. In the fall of 2007 I was fortunate enough to
have my job as a Contracts Manager come to an end, giving me this
opportunity to work from home on the farm and do what I love to
do - create and help others.
Since 1999 I've had a draft business plan in the works that changed
from time to time, but always focussed on two things - running a
bed and breakfast and being creative. Some of my creative
art work has included acrylic painting, sewing, macrame, wood working,
soap making, tin can art, and much much more.
Bed & Breakfast: Well we are now listed on www.bbcanada.com
and just need to add pictures. We've done a lot of decorating
to ensure that our guest rooms are just perfect! We still
have a bit of outside renovations to take care of - hopefully that'll
all get completed by the of this Fall.
Artisan Shop: Most recently I decided to take on the art
of metal working. I've taken a beginners welding course and
now own my own MIG welder and one of the coolest 'guy' tools around
- a plasma cutter! Knowing that I wanted my creations to now
be directed to steel, and also knowing that I really wanted to incorporate
old pieces of this-and-that from days gone by to my metal work,
the name 'Rustic Remnants' seemed like the perfect name for this.
Creating and selling items that I make myself that either have a
‘rustic’ look and feel to them, or contain ‘remnants’
of old country bits that would also fit the rustic theme, is very
satisfying and it fulfills my desire to always be creative. Country
style decorating has been around for a long time for many country
dwellers, but has now expanded and is currently favoured by the
more traditional styled home owners as a new form of decoration.
By incorporating remnants of days gone by I feel that this makes
the art even more meaningful, and the right piece of rustic art
is a piece that one doesn't tire of, but rather art that ages gracefully
with time and may also be a great reminder of our heritage.
Many of the rustic bits of our heritage include old steel horseshoes,
railroad nails, and any other old metal pieces that can be formed
into functional pieces of art. Custom work can be done if
you're looking for that certain something special that you want
done with some old rustic pieces that you may have around the house
or barn.
So with these changes you will see that our website has pages for
The Barn, our Bed
& Breakfast, the Bed &
Bale facilities, and the
Rustic Remnants Artisan Shop. We hope you will continue to visit
our website to see what's going on at the Farm!
Happy Trails to all of you we
hope to see you soon!
